Interesting Information for People Who Live In Michigan
After doing a little research I have discovered.
1. Gov Granholm is the 3rd highest paid Gov in the country at $177,000 in
salary. This does not count her $60,000 expense account. Only the Gov of New York
and California make more than her!
2. Gov Granholm’s husband has 3 assistants paid by the state.
The highest paid assistant makes $117,000 a year.
3. Our state Congressmen and Senators are the 2nd highest paid
at $79,650 in salary. This does not count their $20,000 expense
account. Only California legistalators make more.
4. Our teachers are the 3rd highest paid teachers in the country
5. Our cigarette tax is the 4th highest in the country
6. Our Corporate Income Tax rate is the 7th highest.
Funny how we don’t have enough money to pay our bills and the only answer is
for us to pay more in taxes, when our public servants are getting fat on our
sweat! Pass it on

D.C. Imam Declares Muslim Plan to Take
Over America
The WorldNetDaily story below reveals that Jihad has many tentacles in
addition to physical violence, with “Cultural Jihad” being a prominent
one, and that these tentacles are increasingly spreading throughout
America.
When I am asked “Can the rising tide of Islamofascism be stopped?”,
here’s how I respond:
When Muslims who advocate or support Jihad, in all its forms, are
convinced America has the moral courage to rise and stand against
them…
When those Muslims are convinced America has the will to fight back and
will do what is necessary to stop them in their tracks…
When those Muslims are convinced Americans will renounce the political
correctness that aids and abets Islamofascism and provides cover to those
who advocate the overthrow of our government…
And when those Muslims witness what the “sleeping giant” called America
can and will do when roused to defend itself…
THEN we will begin to turn the tide of Islamofascism.
This is why I founded ACT for America. This is why we need each and
every one of you to do what you can to help us build the citizen action
network that will demonstrate, both to the Islamic world and to our own
government, that we are steadfast in our conviction to rise in defense of
our security, our liberty and our values.

D.C. imam declares Muslim

Washington-based cleric working

that he is part of a movement working toward replacement of the U.S.
government with “the Islamic State of North America” by 2050.
With branches in Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento and
Philadelphia, the group As-Sabiqun – or the Vanguard – is under the
leadership of Abdul Alim Musa in the nation’s capital.
Musa’s declaration of his intention to help lead a takeover of America
was highlighted by noted Islam
observer Robert Spencer on his website Jihad Watch.
Spencer told WND that figures such as Musa should not be ignored, “Not
because they have the power to succeed, but because they may commit acts
of violence to achieve their purpose.”
Musa’s website declares: “Those who engage in this great effort require
a high level of commitment and determination. We are sending out a call to
the believers: Join with us in this great struggle to change the
world!”
Musa launched the group in the early 1990s at the Al-Islam mosque in
Philadelphia. His group says it is influenced by the writings and life
work of Muslim thinkers and leaders such as Muslim Brotherhood founder
Hasan al-Banna, Sayyid Qutb and Iranian revolutionary Ayatollah
Khomenei.
The writings of Al-Banna and Qutb figured prominently in al-Qaida’s
formation.
Musa’s organization says its leadership “has delivered numerous
speeches in the United States and abroad, contributing their analyses and
efforts to solve contemporary problems in the Muslim world and in urban
America.”
![]() Abdul Alim Musa |
“The paramount goal of the movement is the establishment of Islam as a
complete way of life in America,” the group declares. “This ultimate goal
is predicated on the belief – shared by many Muslims worldwide – that
Islam is fully capable of producing a working and just social, political,
economic order.”
The groups says it does not “advocate participation in the American
political process as an ideal method for advancing Islamic issues in the
U.S.; instead, it believes in a strong and active outreach to the people
of the U.S.”
Spencer told WND he does not know of any direct influence Musa has on
prominent Muslim leaders or on U.S. policymakers, but he says it’s
“unclear how much ‘mainstream’ Muslim leaders harbor similar hopes –
because no one dares question them about it.”
As WND
reported, the founder of the leading Islamic lobby group CAIR, the
Council on Islamic-American Relations, reportedly told a group of Muslims
in California they are in America not to assimilate but to help assert
Islam’s rule over the country. CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper also has
said, in a newspaper interview, he hopes to see an Islamic government over
the U.S. some day, brought about not by violence but through
“education.”
In London last summer, as WND
reported, Muslims gathered in front of the London Central Mosque to
applaud fiery preachers prophesying the overthrow of the British
government – a future vision that encompasses an Islamic takeover of the
White House and the rule of the Quran over America.
Musa says he wants to avoid what he calls an “absolutist” outlook on
“the advancement of Muslims.”
His group’s philosophy is to stress unity between the various streams
of Islam “in the attainment of common goals.”
Although As-Sabiqun is a Sunni movement, it has publicly voiced support
for Shia movements and organizations such as the 1979 Islamic revolution
in Iran and the Iranian-backed group Hezbollah, which waged war on Israel
in the summer of 2006.
Musa, the group says, repeatedly has “stressed that the tendency by
some Muslims to focus on the differences between Sunni and Shia Islam at
this juncture in history is counterproductive to the goals of the Islamic
movement as a whole.”
The group says it encourages social-political advancement concurrent
with a program of spiritual and moral development according to the Quran
and Sunnah, compilations of stories from the life of Islam’s prophet
Muhammad.
The group says it has a six-point plan of action which is implemented
at each location where a branch of the movement is established.
- Establishing a mosque “as a place to worship Allah in congregation
and as a center of spiritual and moral training.” - “Calling the general society” to embrace Islam.
- Establishing a full-time school “that raises children with a strong
Islamic identity so they can, as future Islamic leaders, effectively
meet and deal with the challenges of growing up in the West.” - Establishing businesses to “make the movement financially stable and
independent.” - Establishing “geographical integrity by encouraging Muslims of the
community to live in close proximity” to the mosque. - Establishing “social welfare institutions to respond to the need for
spiritual and material assistance within the community as well as the
general society.”
In addition to daily classes, each mosque in the movement “also
provides youth mentorship, marriage counseling, a prison outreach program,
and employment assistance for ex-convicts.”
As-Sabiqun says its branch in Los Angeles “was instrumental in creating
a free health clinic in cooperation with other Islamic groups. The
headquarters branch in D.C. has developed scout programs for young members
of the community.”
The group says the inspiration for its name comes from Quran,
9:100:
“The vanguard (as-Sabiqun) of Islam – the first of those who forsook
their homes, and of those who gave them aid, and also those who follow
them in all good deeds – well-pleased is Allah with them, as are they with
Him: For them hath He prepared Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell
therein forever: that is the supreme Felicity.”

Court Gives Indiana City Go Ahead to Sue Gun Makers
By Monisha BansalCNSNews.com
Staff Writer
October 31, 2007(CNSNews.com) – The Indiana Court of Appeals ruled Monday that the city of Gary, Ind., could sue gun manufacturers, though federal law currently prohibits such lawsuits. Gun control advocates are hailing the ruling as a victory, but gun rights groups said the federal law will be upheld. The case originated in 1999 with a sting conducted by Gary police of northern Indiana gun dealers.
According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, a liberal gun control organization, the gun dealers supplied more than 60 percent of the crime guns recovered in the city.Gary also sued the major gun makers who sold handguns through these dealerships, claiming they knowingly profited from the diversion of guns to criminals.Brian Siebel, a senior attorney with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and co-counsel representing the City of Gary, told Cybercast News Service that the lawsuit comes under an exception to the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, because it does not shield gun manufacturers from liability for sales practices that knowingly violate Indiana’s public nuisance statute.
Trial is set to begin in 2009 against the 16 gun manufacturers and six northern Indiana gun dealers.”The citizens of Gary may finally have their day in court and help put an end to the unlawful practices of gun makers that funnel guns into the criminal market,” Siebel said. But Ashley Varner, a spokeswoman for the National Rifle Association, said, “Criminals are a public nuisance, not law-abiding firearm manufacturers.”"The gun industry is not responsible for violence by criminals,” she told Cybercast News Service. “They are trying to blame the firearms industry … for criminal activity, which is ridiculous.”"This ruling is an important victory for the people of Gary and the rest of Indiana who have suffered from the distribution of guns to criminals and gun traffickers because of the practices of the gun industry,” added Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Center, in a statement. “When the gun industry injures the public, it should be held accountable.”David Workman, senior editor of Gun Week, said: “The gun industry isn’t hurting the public and they know it.
This is just another effort by the Brady Campaign to demonize firearms manufacturers and retailers who sell firearms and people who own firearms.”"The real problem – that we all would like to solve – is the criminal misuse of firearms,” he told Cybercast News Service. “The gun industry is a legal, highly regulated industry and they’re not responsible for the acts of people who misuse firearms.”"Gary’s frivolous lawsuit is the poster child for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act,” said Lawrence Keane, senior vice president and general counsel of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association of the firearms industry.”It is like blaming car makers for drunk-driving accidents,” he said in a statement.
Varner said she believed the “law would prevail,” and that the act is “now the law of the land, and that means that law-abiding manufacturers and retailers cannot be held responsible for the actions of criminals.”"It’s a very clear cut law, and we expect that some activist judges are going to try to challenge it,” she said. “It’s because of politically motivated lawsuits that Congress had to pass this bill in the first place.”But Siebel noted that this was not a case of activism. He said the 3-0 decision Monday came from a conservative state and a court that has not been known for judicial activism.Varner added that cities should be tough on prosecuting crimes, instead of suing the gun industry.
“Our country has some big city mayors who don’t want to take responsibility for the crime in their cities,” she said. “They would rather point their fingers of blame at firearm manufacturers. They don’t want to crack down on criminal activity.”

is further demonstrated by a 2005 study, “Saudi Publications on Hate
Ideology Invade American Mosques” by Freedom House, a non-profit,
nonpartisan organization that seeks to advance the worldwide expansion of
political and economic freedom. Freedom House researchers found that over
80% of U.S. mosques had been radicalized by Saudi-appointed, Wahhabist
imams and ideology. These Saudi-trained clerics, the ideological arm of
the royal family, advocate the rejection of Christianity and Judaism, the
full application of the Sharia or Islamic law in America, hatred of
non-believers, renunciation of allegiance to America and the waging of
jihad by all Muslims against infidels.
Saudi government plays in supporting terrorism worldwide and the spreading
of extremist ideology within America. It is the height of irony that while
Saudia Arabia bans churches and arrests Christians praying in private
homes, it is also freely funding a fifth column inside America in the form
of “religious” instruction. For President Bush to praise Saudi Arabia as
an “anti-terrorism” ally while Saudi-funded efforts within our borders are
undermining and threatening our very existence as a free nation, nullifies
American counter-terrorism measures and ignores the warnings of those
charged with protecting us. Such a decision dangerously ignores reality
and courts our own destruction.

Health Care America
August 22, 2007
Wednesday, August 22, 2007
Dear Friends:
Michael Moore ends the movie “Sicko” with a lie. It may not be an intentional lie, but it is a falsehood, nonetheless. Michael Moore ends the movie saying that every European country offers “free” health coverage to their citizens and every European country provides such coverage through a “single payer” system.
Both statements are untrue. It is a sad commentary on the pathetically, uninformed state of the health care policy debate in America that health care journalists and American political leaders do not simply know that both of the statements are untrue and that they have not responded clearly and quickly to correct the error.
So what makes these statements untrue? Reality. Most European countries directly charge their citizens for their health coverage. It is not “free” anywhere. Some nations require people to buy coverage from health insurance companies that look very much like American health insurance companies. Other countries use a payroll tax on everyone’s paycheck to pay for health coverage. In those countries, each citizen pays a portion of their weekly paycheck for health insurance – - just like our Social Security payroll deduction. In Germany, each employee pays 7 percent of each paycheck for health care and each employer matches that 7 percent. People also can spend additional money to buy better coverage.
The government of the Netherlands takes 9 percent of a worker’s paycheck every week to purchase health coverage – - it’s hard to figure out how Michael Moore can legitimately call such a payroll deduction “free.”
Also, when the government of the Netherlands deducts that 9 percent, or when Germany deducts their 14 percent — they do not use, as Mr. Moore incorrectly claims, a “single payer system” like Canada to provide the actual health insurance for each citizen. Each of those countries has multiple health plans – or “sickness funds” — that people choose among. Citizens of Switzerland and the Netherlands choose between competing health plans to purchase their coverage.
So “Sicko” ends with a double lie: Coverage in Europe is not “free,” nor is it provided through a pure, Canadian-like single payer system. “Sicko” either deliberately misleads us or is unintentionally wrong.
Each country in Europe has found its own unique path to universal coverage. Switzerland has no government health program at all. Everyone in Switzerland is required to purchase from one of nearly 100 competing insurance companies. (The Swiss government pays for coverage for the poor.)
What about France – - a country Michael Moore described as Eden in “Sicko?” The government uses a sales tax approach and uses that money to buy a basic (not comprehensive) package of coverage for about 80 percent of the French people. The basic government benefit coverage is somewhat incomplete, however, so 92 percent of the people in France now purchase additional private insurance to fill in the 20 – 40 percent gap in various parts of their government benefits. About 20 percent of the French people skip the government program completely and purchase only private coverage. In either case, the coverage isn’t free and is not handled through a Canadian single-payer model.
It’s unclear from the movie whether Mr. Moore knows that he is not telling the truth about Europe’s health care systems, or whether he is still low on a learning curve relative to health care financing and delivery. The learning curve seems pretty steep. He criticizes the U.S. government Medicare drug benefit in “Sicko,” and he claims with some passion that the Canadians handle drug coverage much better. So how does the Canadian government actually handle drug coverage? Seven out of eight provinces do not cover non-hospital drug costs for anyone other than low income seniors. The federal government does not cover anyone.
People in those seven Canadian provinces might actually prefer the American Medicare system of partial coverage (favored by over 80 percent of enrollees), which Mr. Moore seems to sneer at in the movie. American Medicare drug coverage can have a “donut hole” in the middle. Seven of eight Canadian provinces skip the donut and give the citizens only the hole.
“Sicko” also tells the story of a Canadian on a golf vacation in Florida to illustrate the alleged superiority of the Canadian insurance and care delivery system because – - Mr. Moore claims in the movie – - the Canadian actually rushed home to Canada when he needed health care rather than getting that care in Florida. A valuable piece of information that “Sicko” conveniently does not mention at that point is that the Canadian government health coverage does not travel. Americans who are insured almost always have health coverage that covers at least emergencies whenever we travel. Canadians, however, have such long backlogs for care in so many places that the Canadian government benefit program can’t afford to let people simply leave Canada to access care elsewhere. So the Canadian system that Mr. Moore so eagerly advocates decided not to let its health care benefits “travel” outside of Canada. Canadians in Florida, therefore, actually do return to Canada for care when they can… not because they don’t think Americans deliver quality care, rather because their government does not cover care in America.
Again, it’s not clear if Mr. Moore is low on the learning curve on that point, or more directly duplicitous. We will probably learn which statement is true as the debate progresses.
There are rumors Mr. Moore offers $10,000 rewards for anyone who can prove that any point in his movies is untrue. Since he says that “every” country in Europe uses the Canadian model, and since there are quite a few countries in Europe, does he owe $10,000 per country or just $10,000 for getting Europe wrong as a package? Or is it $10,000 per country on “single payer” and another $10,000 per country for “free”?
We can let his conscience decide. Money is owed, however.
Thank you.

The Real Skinny on Socialized Medicine
July 19, 2007
Date Published: June 26, 2007
“The Real Skinny on Socialized Medicine”
Publication: Townhall.com Author: Matt Kibbe
“I’m the thinnest f@#king guy in town!”–Michael Moore (Rolling Stone 9/17/04)
In his new film Sicko, Michael Moore makes it clear that he is a big fan of government-run health care. He may in fact be one of the biggest fans of socialized medicine in America, given his well-documented penchant for donuts and double Quarter-Pounders with cheese.Moore proposes that the federal government nationalize the provision of health insurance so that everyone is covered. “The government has been quite good and efficient at creating a number of systems,” he tells Time. “Ask anyone on Social Security if their check comes on time every month. Like clockwork. And it comes through the so-called dilapidated U.S. mail.” In his movie, Moore celebrates the socialized health care systems in Cuba, Canada and France as better role models for America.
In Canada, says Moore, the main flaw in their program “is that it’s underfunded.”Of course, the reality is that Canada’s health care professionals are fleeing to America to work, and Canadian patients regularly come here for life-saving care. In fact, the Canadian system Michael Moore is so fond of is one of only three governments that make it illegal to buy private health insurance.
The others are Cuba and Kim Jong Il’s North Korea. And here at home, the bankrupt Social Security system and massively inefficient U.S. postal service are not models for anything but government failure. In a socialized system, every taxpayer pays in to the government pot. But not everyone gets the health care they need, because the demand for free health care will be virtually infinite. But the dollars available to be spent will be limited. Hillary Clinton, when she last tried to impose government-run health care on the American people, euphemistically referred to this as a “global budget” for health care expenditures.
Michael Moore calls it “underfunded.” Call it what you like, but what this really means is that some people get the health care they need and others wait in a line for service. It’s called rationing, and it is really Sicko. As the great Irish philosopher P.J. O’Rourke once observed: “If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it’s free.”Michael Moore is too blinded by ideology (or perhaps by a deep fried Twinkie-induced blood sugar rush) to see the real problems with the U.S. health care system: the government is already too involved in the health decisions made by patients and their doctors. This has driven up prices and denied individuals the right to make health care choices for themselves and their families.
To truly fix health care, we need to increase choice and competition, as well as reduce the insurance mandates and junk lawsuits that drive up costs. But why do I keep taking shots at the breath-taking girth of “the famously outsized filmmaker,” as the L.A. Times recently referred to Moore? In America, what he eats is his choice. That is, for now. Fully socializing medicine will bring about a new set of problems that are far more threatening than just “access to health care.” Socialized health insurance concentrates power into the hands of politicians and bureaucrats, and it opens the door to ever more government intrusion into other aspects of our lives.
Michael Moore is grossly overweight. Some experts claim that obesity is an epidemic that is imposing a heavy, and unnecessary, burden on our health care system. According to the Centers for Disease Control, obesity leads to myriad health problems including heart disease, some types of cancer, and stroke. Medical expenses attributed to overweight and obese people, says the CDC, “accounted for 9.1 percent of total U.S. medical expenditures in 1998 and may have reached as high as $78.5 billion ($92.6 billion in 2002 dollars). Approximately half of these costs were paid by [the government-run health insurance programs] Medicaid and Medicare.” If we are all on the financial hook for Michael’s aggressive eating habits in a socialized health care system, it seems like the rest of us must get a say in what he eats. After all, under a government “global budget” for healthcare spending, every extra cheese pizza Michael Moore downs today may someday result in a denial of care for your truly ill child waiting in line for “free” health care.
I can imagine a new federal agency, perhaps within Homeland Security, assigned the job of enforcing “good” dietary habits on suspicious eaters – like Michael Moore. Maybe Mike’s buddy Fidel Castro knows how to make this work. As far as I can tell, the only fat people in communist Cuba are part of the political class. The rest of the Cuban people are just hungry.Matt Kibbe is the president of FreedomWorks.

Congressman Ellison Equates Bush to Hitler and 9/11 to Reichstag Fire
by Jerry Gordon
Rep. Keith Ellison , the first Afro American Muslim from Minnesota to serve in Congress, was back in Edina, Minnesota this week. On July 8th he was spoke to a group of Atheists for Human Rights- group that opposes all ‘authoritarian ‘religiions.
He loves to say that “after 9/11 Muslims and atheists were at the bottom of most polls”.
His comment captured in a Minneapolis Star Tribune article about this event was:
“You will always find this Muslim standing up for your right to be atheists all you want.”
He was playing to a crowd of enthusiastic left wing Democratic Farmer Labor party members with anti-war cant calling the Iraq war “occupation” . He also suggested impeaching Vice President Cheney for engineering the Scooter Libby commutation, however he went a little too far when it came to Pres. Bush.
In an over the top remark he accused Bush of being the equivalent of Hitler, who many believe may have lit the torch figuratively and literally that caused the Reichstag Fire of February 27, 1933 , equating it to 9/11.
He may have taken a cue from an audience member who wore a black tee shirt with “Investigate 9/11″.
“It’s almost like the Reichstag fire in Nazi German, kind of reminds me of that. After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and put the leader of that country (Hitler) in a position where he could basically have the authority to do whatever he wanted. The fact is that I’m not saying [Sept. 11] was a U.S. plan, or anything like that because, you know, that’s how they put you in the nut-box-dismiss you.”
He also accused Bush of using so-called Faith Based Initiatives as a Department of Outreach to “the far right wing of the Christian evangelicals.” “That’s really all it is,” Ellison said in his Edina library remarks.
Alan Fine of the blog, Minnesota Democrats Exposed and GOP candidate who ran against Ellison and lost in the heavily Democratic University of Minnesota Congressional District, had this comment about Ellison that rings true.
“Keith Ellison is among the most extreme among Democrats. His rhetoric can be heard in the halls of states and organizations (like CAIR) that support the terrorists, who would like to rewrite history and would like to destroy our nation.”
Fine’s dad, by the way flew 22 Missions as a USAAF pilot against Herr Hitler’s regime during WWII.
The Atheists for Human Rights, a 350 member group, were ecstatic. Afterwards they got a call from an O’Reilly Factor producer asking for a DVD of Ellison’s remarks and a possible stint on the Fox Cable News program.
The group’s spokesperson, Marie Castle told Minneapolis Star Tribune reporter Mike Kaszuba who covered the event, “We’re trying to upgrade the image of atheists. They don’t think we have a moral compass.” I concur with Ms. Castle last observation. This group of atheists has no moral compass by giving a soapbox to Rep. Ellison to prattle his provocative and ‘incendiary’ views.
Apparently, the sponsoring atheist group received objections from fellow atheists about permitting a Muslim to speak. At least those few who objected had a ‘moral compass’.
So what can we expect out of this? A five minute food fight with Ellison on the Fox Cable O’Reilly Factor program giving him an audience of millions and the undying thanks for Ms. Castle and her fellow Minnesotans at Atheists for Human Rights. Little do they know that Ellison lied to them. They have no rights under Muslim Sharia law. They are just Dhimmis.

Some of what you are saying back to us about the big amnesty victory
“I was so discouraged that I quit at least 4 times during this battle, but then I would reflect on my dad who died in the Korean War fighting for this country and I would pick up the phone again. “This is the first time in my 62 years that I have been active in politics and contacted anyone. I have called, faxed and emailed the President, Vice President, Senators, Representatives, and friends about this issue. I was scared to death to do it, but your encouragement kept me going. I am battle-weary from this fight, and I know the next one is very near. We are going to have to fight our own leaders to keep our own country, which seems ironic and so sad.” ———-Bob Hargis, Morrison, Colo.
DEAR FRIENDS,
I apologize that our NumbersUSA website does not have interactive pages for you to express your opinion to us and each other and for you to quiz each other about techniques to be more effective activists.
We are working on adding many new features of that kind in the near future. We want to unleash even more of the creative and symbiotic power of 450,000 American citizens (registered in our network) who are committed to action for a sensible immigration policy.
Response to Amnesty Defeat “Thank You for making me feel a part of something big… My country. I know it’s not over: as we do this, we will only get better at it. I get paid soon so I will send a donation. You are a national asset and treasure. God Bless your organization, our Archangel in what was a dark moment for this nation. It is now a brilliant triumph. I hope we get to secure that border, and enforce the law with the laws we do have. Congratulations to all of you.” ———-Manuel Vega, Conway, South Carolina
“Thank you so very much for helping us to save America. You and your staff should be extremely proud of yourselves. It is a great feeling to know there are still people who will do the right thing for their country. Please help to keep us informed about what is going on with this subject, so that hopefully no one will become complacent.” ———- Sherrie Gibson, With Much Gratitude, Newport Beach, Calif.
“We all realize that this is just the beginning of a tough fight to complete the job. Would you spearhead the effort to forcefully require Congress to not wait any longer? By this I mean, build the fence now! We cannot afford to wait until 2009 to get this effort started. The money has been allocated; it is time to build the fence. No more excuses! Let’s put just as much pressure on Congress as we have just recently generated. Encourage them that now is the time to work out each part of this whole problem in a sound, sensible (no behind the closed doors secrets), and effective manner. It will be a tough fight again, but I think this country is ready to step up to the challenge. Let’s go get ‘em!” ———-Charles Ransierginaw
“Thank you for giving us a way to channel our voices and have our own ‘lobby’ in defeating this amnesty and this out of control increase in immigration. I phoned, emailed and faxed all day while I watched CSPAN.” ———- Toni McKinney, Lakewood, Colo.
“I am a regular working guy, and I have barely enough time for my family…let alone time to write to the elitists in D.C. I very deeply appreciate your work. Please tell everyone in your organization how much their work is appreciated by us regular ‘ole Americans!” ———-Jim Ridley “I want to add my appreciation for the fabulous job you do making it so easy for us to make our voices known.” ———- Marcy Underdahl, Price, Utah
“I am ashamed to admit that I have never called or written my senators or the White House until you came along! Thanks for reminding us what this great country is all about.” ———-Shelly Meissner, Richmond, VA
“I just called my Senator’s office in Washington, DC. The girl answering the phone was obviously frazzled. All I could get from her was “Yes ma’am, I’ll pass that on…” So I offered HER a little sympathy. I mentioned that I bet today has been pretty tough. She acknowledged that the last three weeks have been AWFUL. I said, “Well, it is even more awful for us, the people who live out here without any control of what is happening as the government seems bent on giving our country away.” I went on to say how critical to the survival of the USA this is and how letting all of these illegals in is a way to do away with the middle class and gain total control of the country. Her voice softened like she was about to cry and she said once more, “Yes, ma’am, I will pass that on.” ———-Diana Benson, Saginaw, MO
“I work helping disabled adults, and this is another community being ignored by illegal immigration. Just coming out of a meeting yesterday, there are approximately 54 million Americans in this country out of jobs because businesses still have an attitude that if you have a disability, you not capable of working. These Americans want to work, they don’t want to be on government assistance, and some are doing jobs ‘Americans don’t want to do’ so to speak. I know of a woman in Minnesota who is a housekeeper and she has a disability, but she likes being able to pay her own bills however hard it is. So please do a section on the unemployed disabled community; they need jobs! This is another case to stop illegal immigration. There are so many different aspects of Americans wanting jobs that are being ignored… She said she was going to sign up for your organization after I spoke with her. ———-Michael Craven, Lynn, Mass.
“I have never before called or faxed my senators and congressmen – never before joining Numbers USA. You made it easy for me to both call and fax them regarding the amnesty issue. Unfortunately, my senators (Cantwell and Murray) ignored my pleas as they continued to vote in favor of legalizing an illegal act. This will obviously bode poorly for them in the next general election. I didn’t think I was in a position where I could help the cause financially but I will donate on the next request, even if it means I do without something I want. Your efforts to make it easy for us average citizens to petition our Congress is more important than my individual needs.” ———- Jerry Heitzman, Lacey, Wash.
“Using Numbers USA excellent fax and phone services to express ourselves are the single greatest tools we have to swiftly contact our representatives.” ———-Ronald Lazar, Coquille,OR
“Wow! I am thrilled so many people responded against the amnesty bill. What’s next? Can you start a border fence campaign that will be just as effective?” ———-Patricia Ewers, Castro Valley, CA
“Now that the ‘amnesty’ bill has been rejected, can we get some help enforcing the laws already on the book? In other words: Send illegals back home and secure our borders! Maybe then we can help the hospitals and the Emergency Rooms and start using food stamps and welfare for our own needy. Take away medical and welfare from illegals, and they just might go home.” ———-Edwin Werntz, Baytown, TX
“Thank you so much for giving us an easy way to quickly forward our views. Both of my Texas Senators have written me several times in response to faxes sent through NumbersUSA and both of my Texas Senators have held the line and helped to kill this bill. I have already sent both of them an email thanking them for standing up for what is right for this country. Again, thanks for the vehicle we needed to reach Capitol Hill so quickly; Without organizations like this it simply could not have been done.” ———- Melissa Bohannon, Houston, TX
“What are Numbers USA priorities now? I feel the next task is to go straight to work on enforcing existing immigration laws, securing our ports and borders (building a fence!), stopping Mexican trucks from driving into America, and stopping a federal multi-billion dollar plan to use American money to rebuild Mexico’s infrastructure! Using Numbers USA excellent fax and phone services to express ourselves are the single greatest tools we have to swiftly contact our representatives.” ———-Ronald Lazar, Coquille, OR
“I made about 20 calls last night to Senators’ offices and of those, 6 calls were thank you and appreciation calls to some of the Senators who have stood up against this bill for the long haul. Many of these Senators’ mail boxes were full and no more messages could be left; a good sign! I understand this morning President Bush called all of the Senators about their vote, and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez approached senators as they entered and left the chamber shortly before the vote. Tony Snow has been calling them for several days…I have never seen such strong arm tactics in my life along with the senate proceedings yesterday! They really wanted this passed, didn’t they? The one thing they underestimated was that when the grassroots citizens of this country have had enough of something they usually get things done! “I talked to a County clerk in my town and she was going to post the numbers website on the community courthouse bulletin board and also she will be checking out the site. Maybe members in their towns could ask for the same exposure to the website!” ———- Sue Watt, Scotland, Ark.
Several of you wrote in with wonderful and lavish personal praise addressed to me. I thank all of you, even though it would be in poor taste to reprint them. … Well, maybe I’ll include just one. This one from Brandon was exceptionally dramatic and ornate — and an energized way to look at our whole movement. As long as you didn’t see me in any of my CNN interviews this week, perhaps you can just envision the person hunched over this keyboard as a Gary Cooper.
Obviously, I love the flattery, but why do Sens. Sessions, Vitter, DeMint, McCaskill and Dorgan get to be Jimmy Stewart? “Dear Roy, I wonder if you’ve seen the movie “Meet John Doe”; if so you might recognize yourself as the modern day embodiment of Mr. Doe, played by Gary Cooper. Like John Doe, your vision and character are the foundation and catalyst of this mounting modern day populist uprising. Similarly a handful of principled Senators personify the embattled Senator, played by Jimmy Stewart, in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington”. Few can stand up to the pressures of such threats; but without these men and women of character, the enemy within would most surely have prevailed. “Of course there are other heroes along with villains and their victims in this epoch. Ranchers under siege along a border that has become a war zone comes to mind. Journalist turned Minuteman Chris Simcox, camera in hand, mobilizing average Americans from all walks of life. They monitor the border, exposing in graphic reality the human tragedy and environmental catastrophe.
No one should forget the Bush administration’s newest targets of political terror…America’s Border Patrol Agents. The message is clear…agents who dare do their job may well face ten years in a small cell as political prisoners… solitary confinement may well be ones fate. Yes there are lots of true heroines and heroes, and sadly, too many victims in this revolt. Be-that-as-it-may, your clarion call, like Paul Revere in his day, has raised the alarm; and given a sustaining voice to the growing numbers of citizens of the USA taking up the ‘call’ in this fight for America’s sovereignty and its very survival. “While the next battles in this war to turn back a ‘tsunami’ of foreign ‘labor’ is just over the horizon; incorruptible Patriots from every corner of America have you and the sustained energy of the NumbersUSA staff to thank. Exposing the skullduggery of the economic hit men [lobbyists> while not easy…it is essential. Wielding their insidious corrupting influence upon lapdog political minions these people haven’t only forgotten their roots, they’ve lost their souls. Keep the torches shining bright on those cowards and traitors who, for 30 pieces of silver, would betray America’s future. “Thank you for keeping America’s fate from being sealed this day in the cloture and dagger of wmd politics launched on America by globalist gwb (a man I’m sorry to say I voted twice for). Now hit hard in an offense that can’t be ignored. Ike in his time sent foreign labor packing, and we can too.” ———-Brandon E.
All of you deserve to claim whatever movie character you wish to represent you in a movie about how hundreds of thousands of regular American citizens reclaimed their country and began to set it back on course. I and all of the staff of NumbersUSA are honored to serve a facilitating role in assisting you to combine your voice with others to have real impact in Washington. We are thrilled that NumbersUSA has been so helpful in the mobilization.
We will continue to do our best to play this role with fidelity to our stated purposes and goals (see our Home Page) and without abusing the trust of the citizens who participate. Always remember that because our staff and members come from all parts of the ideological spectrum and are Democrats, Independents and Republicans (with a decent representation of Libertarians and Socialists to boot), NumbersUSA does not use your activism for any other policy change than to reduce overall illegal and legal immigration numbers.
We know that all of you have other really important political goals, but we focus only on immigration in order to put together the largest, most powerful force to change destructive immigration policies. Your combined efforts in this highly focused campaign the last two months were given an incredible tribute this morning by the editorial writers of the Washington Times:
(T)he amnesty coalition collapsed, and the 64 Senate supporters became just 46. What happened? As we noted above, talk radio proved that in modern times, it is indispensable for conservative political success. Much of the credit should also go to the bipartisan lobbying organization NumbersUSA, a powerful advocate for strengthening border security, which made it clear to members of Congress that they weren’t buying the phony games some lawmakers wanted to play: proposing tough-sounding amendments that stood little chance of becoming law, while voting for cloture — and in effect for amnesty.
In numerous publications, Sen. DeMint (R-S.C.) explained how a handful of committed junior Senators was able to defeat The Establishment on amnesty: “And we would have been railroaded, run over, completely flat, if the American people hadn’t gotten so mad about this.” And in story after story today, you volunteer activists using NumbersUSA tools have been given a lot of that credit, such as the article in USA Today which featured your efforts: Opponents claimed a populist victory over what Roy Beck of NumbersUSA called “the cheap-labor lobby.” Beck said his organization, which focuses on immigration-related issues, generated more than two million faxes against the immigration bill since May. Hours before the Senate vote, the Capitol switchboard was swamped with phone calls. “The intensity level and the passions on this bill, we’ve never seen anything like it. Not even close,” said Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., who voted against the bill despite a call from Bush. I think Vicki Robb was on to something today when she said, “NumbersUSA supplied the circuitry to carry the electricity that shocked the Congress.” Thanks again for your electrifying surge,
